How long a job takes
Every timed line adds up to a figure on the quote, the job and the job sheet, for planning the bench. It never changes a price.
Where the time comes from
- The press, from its speed, and on litho its makeready minutes as well. A press with no speed has no time.
- Each finish, from its setup and run times in Settings.
- Packaging, from its time per box.
- A custom line, from the minutes you type in its Takes about row. Leave it blank and the line is simply not timed.
Work a supplier does isn’t counted: an outsourced line, or an extra with a supplier under Who does it. That time is theirs, not yours.
Where you see it
- On the quote, a Takes about row under each quantity’s price, and along the bottom of the editor for the whole quote. With quantities still to pick it shows a range, like the total does.
- On the quote and job pages, under the title, as “2 hr 48 min to make”, and in a Time column on the line table.
- On the job sheet, the whole job’s time under TIME, each item’s beside its quantity, and a Takes row on each item.
- On the day board, split by where the work happens: each press’s printing, the finishing and the packing, added up against each machine’s day. See Plan the week on the day board.
Full breakdown gives each part’s own time, on the quantity’s tab.
What it leaves out is named
A part with no time isn’t counted as none. The figure is followed by “Doesn’t include Drilling — no time set for it in Settings”, so a short total is never mistaken for a quick job. When nothing on the quote is timed, no figure is shown at all.
When the times change
Times are planning figures, not money, so they follow your Settings for as long as the work is still to be done: a draft, sent or accepted quote, and a job through Awaiting payment, Pre-press and In production. Change a finish’s or a press’s times and open work is re-timed on the spot; the save bar says “Re-timed 2 open jobs and 1 quote.” No price moves.
From Ready for dispatch on, a job keeps the times it was planned with. Look at it in a year and it still says what you expected at the time, whatever your Settings say by then. If a part had no time then, the note says it “had no time set when this job was made”, rather than sending you to Settings to fix something that would change nothing.
